EL GRUPO
Local Girls es
una banda londinense alternativa que une el post punk y el indie formada por Ginger Bitter (voz), Rusty
L. Jackon (bajo), Dolly Kosmos
(batería) y El Hubris (guitarra).
Dispuestos a arriesgar kilómetros en la carretera, después de cambiar 7 veces de nombre y de estar a punto de retirarse de la industria musical, finalmente se afianzan con banda y suenan como una bala que entra directa por los oídos.
Un espectáculo al más
puro estilo británico de una banda que huye de modas y tiene su propia esencia.
Deluxe Kicks (2012)
Con un EP, The Wedding Jitters (2011) y dos albums, Weapon (2009) y el último hasta la fecha, Deluxe Kicks (2012), la banda volverá al estudio a grabar su próximo disco a la vuelta de esta gira que inician por España, y que les llevará hasta el festival de Música Diversa en Segovia, el próximo 7 de Junio de 2014, en la sala Canavas Theatre.

¿Por qué el nombre de Local Girls?
Es un buen nombre, que nos gusta. Somos locales,
algunos de los miembros son chicas. Es fácil de recordar y no te deja con
sensación de intriga.
Why the name Local Girls?
It’s a good name, we like it. We are local, some of
our number are girls. It’s easy to remember and it’s not without a sense of
intrigue.
Las canciones de Local Girls me
recuerdan el sonido de los años 60 y 70 Psicodelia, Rock, Garage, Noise, Punk.
Una curiosa mezcla de estilos que resultan en el exquisito sonido de vuestra
música. Así que, ¿cuáles son tus influencias musicales
realmente?
No
sé si nuestras influencias musicales se dejan ver a través de todo lo que tú
pareces creer. Nuestros gustos colectivos difieren considerablemente. Has
hablado de Garage. Creo que hay un amor común por el Garage entre nosotros,
Billy Childish, Shocking Blue, un poco de Link Wray o James Taylor Quartet.
Pero yo nunca he considerado que sea una parte de nuestro sonido. Es bueno
saber que está ahí en alguna parte.
Algunos
de nosotros nos gusta Aphex Twin, la mayoría de nosotros adoramos Future of The
Left. A algunos de nosotros les gustan Cardiacs... otros les odiamos a muerte.
Creo
que sonamos como Jesus Lizard cruzado con Blondie, pero eso es probablemente
sólo para mi. La catarsis que Ginger y yo tenemos al escribir las canciones que
escribimos juntos es probablemente más influyente al final del producto más que
nada. Podríamos estar influenciados por Lily Allen o Shalamar y sería muy probable terminar
sonando como este.
Esta
no es probablemente una respuesta muy satisfactoria, pero son las 2 de la
mañana y esta botella de whisky está vacía.
Local Girls songs remind me the sound of the 60s and 70s and
80: Psicodelia, Rock, Garage, Noise, Punk... A curious mixture of styles
resulting in the exquisite sound of your music. So, what are your musical
influences really?
I don’t know if our musical influences shine through
as much as you would think. Our
collective tastes differe considerably.
You mentioned garage. I think there is a common love for garage between
us, Billy Childish, Shocking Blue, a bit of Link Wray or James Taylor Quartet.
But I’ve never considered that part of our sound. Nice to know it’s in there somewhere.
Some of us like Aphex Twin, most of us adore Future of
The Left. Some us love Cardiacs...some of us fucking hate them.
I think we sound like Jesus Lizard crossed with
Blondie but that’s probably just me. The
catharsis that Ginger and I get from writing the songs we write together is
probably more influential to the end product as much as anything. We could be influenced by Lily Allen or
Shalamar and it would still probably end up sounding like this.
This probably is not a very satisfactory answer, it’s
2am and this bottle of whiskey is empty.
¿Por qué habéis titulado "Deluxe Kicks" a vuestro último álbum?
Una vez más, no sé si puedo darte una respuesta satisfactoria
a esto también. Rusty (bajista) vino con éla. A mi me sugiere algo siniestro,
placeres ocultos. Una caja de Pandora... una trampa de miel, ¿tal vez?
Why you titled "Deluxe Kicks" to your last disc?
Again, i don’t know if I can give you a very
satisfactory answer to this either.
Rusty (bass player) came up with it.
To me it has a suggestion of sinister, guilty pleasures. A pandoras box...a honey trap maybe?
Hablando sobre vuestro último LP,
creo que suena más parecido a la música de los 80, tal vez menos fuerte, con un
sonido más claro ... Los que es seguro, es que algo ha cambiado desde vuestras
disco anteriores, ¿qué es diferente en este
"Deluxe Kicks"?
Bueno,
siempre hemos estado Ginger y yo en la formación. Deluxe Kicks es
con la formación actual, nosotros y Dolly Kosmos a la batería, y Rusty L.
Jackson al bajo. El primer álbum, un mini-álbum llamado ”Weapons” fue con la
primera formación, y en cada versión se le da una vuelta más a las secciones
rítmicas. Así que supongo que el sonido va cambiando un poco de álbum en álbum.
Hemos tenido al menos 4 baterías y 3 bajistas. 2 de los cuales con los que hace
mucho que no hablamos ni Ginger ni yo. Su pérdida francamente.... escuece.
Tal
vez todavía estamos descubriendo quiénes somos musicalmente o como una banda.
El nuevo disco que estamos trabajando es considerablemente diferente a DK.
Talking about your last LP, I think it sounds more similar to
80’s music, maybe less strong, with a
sound more clear... It's sure that something has changed from previous albums,
who is different in “Deluxe Kicks”?
Well, it’s always been Ginger and myself in the line
up. Deluxe Kicks is the current line up
of us two with Dolly Kosmos on Drums and Rusty L. jackson on Bass. The first
album, a 7” mini album called “Weapons” was the first line up and each release
has seen a bit of a revolving door of rhythm sections. So I guess the sound is going to change a bit
from record to record. We’ve had at least
4 drummers and 3 bass players. 2 of
which will no longer talk to Ginger or me.
Their loss frankly....pricks.
Maybe we are still finding out who we are musically or
as a band. The new record we are working
on is considerably different to DK.
Un album, 2 EPs, y más de 5 años en la carretera. Muchas cosas
han pasado en este tiempo para Local Girls ¿Alguna anécdota curiosa que nos
puedas contar?
En
realidad, son 2 álbumes y 1 EP. ¿Anécdotas? Nada que puede contar aquí, creo.
Tendría que hablar con mi abogado primero. Hay una insana cultura de la bebida
entre nosotros. La mayoría de las situaciones terminan, volviendo en nosotros mismos,
en un estado de desconcierto la noche después, de los cuales por lo general no
tenemos recuerdos. Hubo una noche en la ciudad de Essex donde Ginger emborrachó a este arrogante frontman de
la banda, debajo de la mesa y pasó la noche al mando de la pista de baile
rodeada de jóvenes sutors esperanzados
que terminaron con Rusty y conmigo en un extraño apartamento donde tuvimos que aplacar
a un rotweiler muy desconfiado, que tená una pérdida de memoria a corto plazo,
cada 5 minutos.
One album, two EPs and more than 5 years on the road. Many
things have happened at this time to Local Girls. Any
anecdote you can tell us?
2 albums and 1 EP.....ACTUALLY. Anecdotes? Nothing I can tell you here I
don’t think. I’d have to talk to legal
first. We have quite an unhealthy drinking
culture between us. Most situations end
up being regailed to us in a state of bemusement the night after, of which
usually we have no recolection. There
was one night in an Essex town where Ginger drunk this arrogant headline band
under the table and spent the night commanding the dance floor surrounded by
hopeful young sutors which ended with Rusty and I in a strange apartment having
to placate a very distrustful rotweiler, that had a short term memory
loss, every 5 minutes .
Vais a empezar una gira por España
y Europa ¿Qué vais a ofrecer en vivo, y qué esperáis del público en vuestros
espectáculos?
Vamos a estrenar un montón de nuevas canciones que
ni siquiera hemos tocado ante nuestro público Inglés. La última vez que tocamos
en España, tuvimos grandes momentos. Todas las otras bandas que conocimos eran
geniales, el público estaba muy receptivo y nos hicimos amigos para siempre. Nos
moríamos por volver de nuevo. Cuanto más se involucre el público, mejor
respondemos, ya sea entusiasmo o hostilidad.
No nos importa si es bueno o malo, simplemente nos gusta la atención.
You will start a new tour around Spain and Europe. What are
you going to offer in your live concert, and what do you hope from the public
in your shows?
We are going to premier a bunch of new songs that we
haven’t even played to our English audience.
Last time we played in Spain we had such a great time. All the other bands we met were great and the
audience were really receptive and we made life long friends. We’ve been dying to come back ever
since. The more the audience get
involved the more we respond, be that enthusiasm or hostility. We don’t care if it’s good or bad, we just
like attention.
¿Hay alguna sorpresa o planes
alternativos para vuestra gira de 2014?, ¿algo que podáis anticiparnos? ¿Cuándo un
nuevo disco?
Como
te he dicho, tocaremos canciones nuevas, y cuando volvamos a Reino Unido
tenemos la intención de entrar en el estudio y grabar un disco. Tenemos nuestro
propio estudio, por lo que los grabaremos nosotros mismos, con nuestro viejo
productor Jon Clayton para mezclarlo. Espero que sea antes de finales de año.
Do you have any surprise or any plans alternative to this
tour for 2014? Can you anticipate anything to us?
When a new album?
Like I said, we will be playing new songs and once we
get back to the UK we plan to go into the studio and cut the record. We have our own place now so we are going to
record it ourselves and get our old producer Jon Clayton to mix it. Hopefully it will be out before the end of
the year.
¿Pensáis que el mundo digital va a
acabar con el mundo de la música tal y como lo conocemos hoy en día? Cuál es el
futuro del músico?
Lo
dudo. El mundo digital tiene mucho potencial para la explotación de la música.
Tal vez será el fin de la industria de la música, pero lo dudo. Hace ya 10 años
desde que empezó el intercambio de archivos y la revolución del iPod, y el
único cambio leve que he visto es el nuevo descenso de los músicos que se ven
debidamente recompensadas por sus esfuerzos por sellos discográficos grandes y
pequeños. Por no hablar de la excusa para recortar su tasas de los royalties o cobrar
de sus ganancias en las giras, si pueden hacerse con ello. Pero quien quiera
que seas, tu música tiene ahora una red de distribución en todo el mundo a tu
alcance. Venderlo o regalarlo, la elección es tuya. Puedes explotarlo como desees.
Hay poca diferencia entre una grabación anticipada y un préstamo bancario de
todos modos. DIY nunca ha sido tan fácil. Aún así, es mucho trabaja duro.
Do you think the digital world will end with music as we know
it today? What do you think is the future of music?
I
doubt it. The digital world has so much
potential for music explotation. Maybe
it will be the end of the music industry, but I doubt that also. We are 10 years into file sharing and the
iPod revolution and the only slight change I’ve seen is the further decline in
musicians being properly rewarded for their efforts by record labels big and
small. Not to mention an excuse to cut your royalty rate or pilage your touring
earnings if they can get away with it.
But whoever you are and whatever your music is you now have a world wide
distribution network at your fingertips. Sell it or give it away, the choice is
yours. You can exploit it how you
wish. There is little difference between
a record advance and a bank loan anyway.
DIY has never been easier. Still lots of hard work though.

¿Qué piensas de la situación
económica actual en Europa y en el mundo en general?
¡Joder, tío! ¡Son las 2 de la mañana!
No quiero dar una respuesta mal concebida, medio inconsciente.
Tampoco quiero desanimarte con el paquete de pretexto de la sabiduría recibida.
Todo lo que puedo decir es que, en el mundo de hoy, nuestro sentido de
comunidad nunca ha sido menor de lo que es ahora, y el hombre o la mujer en la
calle nunca ha parecido más politizado que en cualquier momento que recuerde, eso hace que me sienta muy MUY triste.
Estamos demonizando a los más pobres de nuestras
sociedades, como los que nos gobiernan, señalando con el dedo acusador a los
que menos tienen y, en definitiva, en la necesidad de ayuda de la mayoría. Mientras que se nos está diciendo
que nos apretemos el cinturón, a nuestros líderes se les ve dilapidando
nuestros bienes y recursos para su propio beneficio; haciendo que las
oportunidades en su propio interés, o la extravagante expedición de caza de
elefantes de Botswana... ¿Tendré problemas por mencionar eso?
Ahora ya son las 3 de la mañana.
What do you think about current economic situation in Spain,
Europe and World in general?
Shit man, it’s 2am!
I don’t want to give an ill conceived, half conscious
answer. I also don’t want to fob you off
with an off the peg piece of recieved wisdom, either. All I can tell you is that in the world today
our sense of community has never been more diminished than it is now and the
average man or woman in the street has never seemed more depoliticised thaat
any time of my recolection and it makes me so, SO sad.
We are demonising the poorest in our societys, as
those who govern us point the finger of blame at those with the least and
ultimately in the need of the most assistence.
While we are being told to tighten our belts our leaders are seen to be
squandering our assets and resources for their own gain; be that opportunities
in their own interests or the odd elephant hunting expadition to Botswana...am
i going to get in trouble for mentioing that?
