EL DISCO THE DISC

El nuevo disco de The Three Seasons, Life's road (2011) te trasporta al pasado. Te lleva a aquella época en al que la forma de vida era la música, Woodstock era el lugar de peregrinaje, y las guitarras de Hendrix y Santana imponían su fuerza.

The Three Seasons - Life's road (2011)

Life's Road (2011) es un disco cargado de autenticidad o puede que no. Puede que no, por que no es normal escuchar un disco con un sonido como este en los tiempos que correr, y parece que ha sido sacado de su tiempo original.

Soberbios todos los temas del álbum, sin excepción. Hard rock crudo (Too Many Choices, Cold to bone), con toques folk (Life's Road), y a veces funk (Moving On), tal y como se hacía en esa época de descubrimiento de nuevos sonidos. Imitadores perfectos de los grupos americanos de los setenta, Led Zeppelin, los primeros Pink Floyd, rock sinfónico (Each To Their Own) de otra era donde la música era auténtica  y sobre todo, una forma de entender la vida. Voz desgarradora e impresionante la de Sartez Fara, con perfecta compenetración con la instrumentación eterna y sinfónica (Since Our First Day), llena de punteos largos y densos propios de Deep Purple o de Black Sabbath, pero también recordando el folk rock más oscuro de Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (An Endless Delusion).

LA ENTREVISTA  THE INTERVIEW

Nos enteramos que The Three Seasons iban a girar por España. Nos pusimos en contacto con la promotora del tour Dejame Decirte, y amablemente nos pusieron en contacto con ellos.

En vuestro último Album, Life's road (2011) nos sorprendisteis con el blues duro y estilos de rock clásico, a veces cercanos al heavy metal y todo esto mezclado con el rock psicodélico. ¿Qué podeis decirnos sobre eso? Al parecer, The Three Seasons se inspira en los sonidos de los años 70 para sus temas, ¿qué podeis decirnos al respecto?

Sí, mucha de la música de los años 70 ha sido muy inspiradora para nosotros. Sin embargo, nunca tratamos de hacerlo directamente como imitación o copia. Tal y como sugieres se trata más bien de mezclar los estilos musicales para llegar a algo nuevo y ante todo, tratar de sonar como The Three Seasons.

In your latest album, Life's road (2011) you surprised us with hard blues and classic rock styles, sometimes close to heavy metal and all this mixed psychedelic rock. What can you tell us about that? It seems The Three Seasons are inspired by the sounds of the 70’s in their themes, what can you tell us about it? 

Yes, a lot of the music from the 70's have been very inspiring for us. Still though, we never try to do straight-up imitations or copy. As you suggest we rather try to mix musical directions and styles to come up with something new -  we first and foremost try to sound like Three Seasons.

¿Cuál es la razón que lleva a un grupo sueco a hacer una gira larga e intensa por España? ¿Qué esperáis de público español?

Siempre estamos dispuestos a salir a tocar y dejar que la gente escuche nuestro sonido, cerca de casa o no. La posibilidad de recorrer en España surgió y funcionó sin problemas. Esperamos que el público español esté interesado y abierto a nosotros con el fin de ¡compartir momentos de buena música!.
Which is the reason that leads to a Swedish group, to do a long and intense tour around Spain? What do you expect about Spanish public? 

We're always eager to come out and play and let people hear what we sound like, close to home or not. The possibility to tour in Spain came up and it worked out smoothly. We hope the Spanish people are interested and open for us in order to share some good music moments!

¿Qué será diferente en esta gira europea en comparación con el disco? ¿Qué verá el público en vuestro show?

A veces, a nuestros shows traemos artistas invitados, pero en esta gira sólo estaremos nosotros tres tocando. Así, será mucho más íntimo, desnudo, un sentimiento más vivo en comparación con el álbum de estudio. Nuestro objetivo al tocar en directo es llevar un montón de energía musical, química y creatividad.
También en esta gira, habrá un par de canciones nuevas y muy interesantes que no estaban en el disco Life's Road. Será interesante escucharlas.
What will be different on this European tour versus the disk? What will audience see at your show? 

Sometimes on our live shows we bring guest artists but on this tour there will only be the three of us playing. As such there will be a much more intimate, naked, live feel than compared to the studio album. Our aim when playing live is to bring lots of musical energy, chemistry and creativity. 

Also on this tour there will be a couple of new, very interesting songs which weren't on the Life's Road record. These should be interesting for everyone hearing them.

En cuanto a vuestra agenda de conciertos, no teneis fechas libres en 18 días seguidos en marzo. Creemos que esto es muy duro ¿Cómo es estar siempre de viaje? ¿Cuándo encontrais tiempo para usted para relajaros?

Viajar siempre es agotador, sin duda. En esta gira, sin embargo, las distancias son  relativamente pequeñas entre los conciertos, lo cual es sin duda una ventaja. Aún así, acabaremos bastante cansados ​​después de todos estos espectáculos, por supuesto. Afortunadamente habrá tiempo para descansar de vez en cuando, por ejemplo después de los espectáculos y en fechas en las que no haya conciertos.
Looking at your concert schedule, you have no free dates in 18 days continous in March. We think this is very hard. How is always traveling? When do you find time for yourself to relax? 

Travelling is always exhausting, no doubt, this tour however looks to have relatively small distances between the gigs which is surely a plus. Still, we will have gotten pretty weary after all these shows, absolutely. Hopefully there will be time to catch one’s breath every now and then, like after the shows and on our no-show dates.

¿Cuáles son los planes de The Three Seasons para el 2012? ¿Tiene algún nuevo proyecto? ¿Hay alguna noticia?

El primer proyecto es, obviamente, la próxima gira por España. También vamos a tratar de hacer shows y conciertos, ¡tantos como se pueda! En algún momento en el futuro, también hay planes para nuevas grabaciones, pero todavía no hemos establecido ninguna fecha concreta con respecto a esto.
What are The Three Seasons’ plans for 2012? Do you have any new projects? ¿Are there any news? 

The first project in line is obviously this coming Spain tour. We will also try to do as many shows and gigs we can! Somewhere in the future there is also plans for new recordings but we have not yet set any specific date regarding these.

¿Creéis que el mundo digital va a terminar con la música tal como la conocemos hoy en día? ¿Cual creeis que es el futuro de la música?

Sin duda alguna ha habido grandes cambios en la forma de hacer música, en comparación con el pasado. No creo que estemos ante el final de la música para nada - lo que posiblemente va a terminar tarde o temprano, es el formato CD y similares, ya que no suenan tan bien como el vinilo y no son tan accesibles y "flexibles" como los servicios ofrecidos a través de Internet o iPods, portátiles y demás.
Do you think the digital world will end with music as we know it today? What do you think is the future of music? 

There has indeed been great changes to the ways one gets his or her music, compared to earlier years. Don't think music is going to "end" though, not at all - what will possibly end sooner or later is CDs and the like, since they doesn't sound as good as vinyl and aren't as accessible and "flexible" as Internet services or portable iPods and such.

Hopefully, in the future, more of everyone's focus will be put on the actual music rather than the more commercial side of things, with all the focus on garments and looks and so forth. 

¿Cuál es vuestro mejor recuerdo de la música?

¡Es muy difícil nombrar sólo uno! Escuchar nuevas canciones y grupos, tocar en conciertos, grabar música, pero es difícil elegir sólo uno. Creo que el sentimiento más firme es la apreciación general que uno siente hacia todo esto, tocar y escuchar y otras cosas. Por lo tanto, tal vez el mejor recuerdo de la música será la memoria de la música.
What is your best memory about music in your life? 

It's very hard to name just one! Hearing new songs and groups, playing shows and recording music all has some fine memories to them as usual, but it's hard to choose just one. I think the most firm feeling is the general appreciation one feels toward all this, playing and hearing and whatnot. As such, if one is to guess, maybe the best memory about music will be the very memory of music.

¿ Habéis oído hablar de la Spanish Revolution? ¿Qué pensais al respecto?

Como la economía de la mayoría de los españoles (y europeos) va cuesta abajo, algún tipo de reacción tuvo que llevarse a cabo, eso es lo que hace la gente. Con la gran presencia en Facebook y Twitter las acciones parecen ser más y más comunes - es de esperar que se puedan gestionar cada vez mejores acciones, como la de Londres del año pasado.
Have you heard of the Spanish-revolution? What do you think about it?  

With most of the Spanish (and European) economy going downhill, some kind of reaction had to take place, that’s what people do. With the large presence of Facebook and Twitter and whatnot these mass-actions seem to be more and more common – hopefully we all manage to use them for good things, like the London riot clean-up last year. 

MISCELÁNEA  MISCELLANY 

¿Podriais decirnos...

... Un libro: Sofie's World (1991) de Jostein Gaarder, es un libro que todo el mundo debería leer. De una manera muy comprensible, aporta preguntas importantes a considerar, la sabiduría y la capacidad de pensar y de entender. Los primeros capítulos pueden ser un poco tediosos, pero al final, es literatura fantástica.

... Una película: Synecdoche, New York (2008) de Charlie Kaufman es casi lo opuesto a lo comprensible, pero su complejidad resulta muy interesante. Aunque se presenta con un humor muy oscuro en general es soportable, ya que todo es absurdo y retorcido. No puedo afirmar que haya  entendido la película, aunque es agradable.

... Una canción:? ... Un álbum:? ... Un grupo o solista?

Voy a tratar de responder a los tres a la vez. He estado escuchando un montón a Frank Zappa últimamente y en especial el álbum Apostrophe (1974) es notable. Con Zappa, uno tiene que "romper" con el primer sentimiento general de que todo es extraño e incómodo. Justo tras esa primera sensación hay cosas maravillosas. En este álbum las canciones Nanook Rubs It (1974) y Uncle Reemus (1974) son una especie de favoritos, ambos con gran bajo y tonos de guitarra y brillantes arreglos vocales. Este último también tiene un intro de piano muy bueno.

Could you tell us about... 

... A book?:  Sofie's World (1991, Jostein Gaarder)  is a book everyone should read. In a very comprehensible way it gives some important questions to ponder and surely gives the reader a good amount of wisdom and ability to think and understand. The first few chapters can be a little tedious but after them, it’s fantastic litterature.

... A movie?: Synecdoche, New York (2008, Charlie Kaufman) is pretty much the opposite to very comprehensible but its complexity and meta-ness is highly interesting. And although it's in very dark mood in general, it's bearable since everything is just so absurd and twisted. Can’t claim to have fully understood it though, not at all, but it’s enjoyable nonetheless.

... A song?: ... An album?: ... A group or soloist?: 

Gonna try to answer all three at once. Been hearing a lot of Frank Zappa lately and especially the Apostrophe (1974) album is a noteworthy one. With Zappa, one has to sort of "break through" the first general feeling of everything just being weird and awkward and noises and strange vox performances. Just underneath this there is wonderful stuff. On this album the songs Nanook Rubs It (1974) and Uncle Reemus (1974) are some kind of favourites, both featuring great bass and guitar tones and brilliant vocal arrangments. The latter also has a very fine piano intro.
