EL DISCO
Joven quinteto de
Leeds con actitud punk (recuerdan a aquellos primeros The Clash), descarados y
tercos, con sonido afilado, música rápida y furiosa, como si de repente se hubiera levantado un
puente que cruzase el río que separa el post-punk del rock haragán de Pavement
o Guided By Voices y ellos, Eagulls, lo estuviesen cruzando.
EAGULLS
Eagulls LP (2014)
Se formaron hace
dos años y conmocionaron a quienes escucharon su primer single, “Council Flat
Blues”, repleto de fuzz desgarbado, denso y épico. Simultáneamente ofrecían
conciertos broncos y ásperos. Lo siguiente, un EP en un sello canadiense (el
mismo que publica a Fucked Up) que se agotó pronto.
Todo ese eco cruzó el
Atlántico y ficharon por el sello de Brooklyn Partisan. Con ellos han cocido su
primer LP, que sale a principios de 2014. Lo que contiene: la cara más urgente
del pop, con estribillos que parecen hojas de sierra, bramidos. Más pistas: les
gusta versionar a Killing Joke y a The Mekons. Han triunfado a lo grande este
octubre en la edición 2013 del CMJ neoyorquino, en su debut en la ciudad de los
rascacielos.
Eagulls estarán de gira por nuestro país en el mes de Abril. Estas son las fechas y lugares donde podrás verlos en directo:

¿Por qué el
nombre de Eagulls?
EAGULLS fue una
broma que rápidamente se convirtió en algo más que eso. También es una palabra
inexistente sin significado alguno.
Why the name Eagulls?
EAGULLS was an in joke that quickly became something other
than a joke. It also is a non existent word with no meaning whatsoever.
La música de
Eagulls suena como una mezcla del Punk
Rock, Garage Rock, y el Post-Punk. Pero ¿cuáles son vuestras influencias
musicales reales?
Todos crecimos
escuchando todo tipo de música, pero siempre han sido los antepasados de punk
los que, obviamente, ha influido en nuestro sonido.
The music of Eagulls sound like a mix
between Punk Rock, Garage Rock, and Post-Punk music. But, what are your real musical influences?
We all grew up listening to all kinds of music, but it has always been the forefathers of punk that has obviously influenced our sound.
¿Cuál es la
diferencia entre la música de Eagulls en la actualidad y vuestra música hace 4
años cuando editáteis “Songs of Prey”?
Desde 2010, los
cinco hemos pasado por un montón de cambios. En aquella época éramos mucho más
libres y más jóvenes. Ahora somos más mayores y hemos peleado con la vida
mundana, y estas sensaciones han propiciado nuestra música más reciente.
También hemos madurado en nuestras habilidades de composición y estilo.
What is the difference between the
music of Eagulls now and your music 4 years ago when you delivered "Songs
Of Prey" (2010)?
Since 2010 all five of us have been through a lot of
changes. Back then we we're much more free and young. Now we're older and
drained with the mundane life and these feelings have propelled themselves
through our recent music. We have also matured in our songwriting abilities and
style.
¿Por qué has
titulado "Eagulls" a vuestro último álbum?
Es nuestro primer
LP. En gran medida, somos nosotros, por
lo que se llegó a un acuerdo de que el título del disco fuera homónimo. Anteriormente,
tuvimos un EP que se tituló EAGULLS EP, y ahora tenemos el álbum que es EAGULLS LP. La
simplicidad es efectiva para que se recuerde.
Why do you have
titled “Eagulls” your last LP?
It's our first LP. It's very much us, so we came to terms
with it being self titled/ LP. Before we had the EP which was just titled
EAGULLS EP, now we have the album which is EAGULLS LP. Simplicity is effective for memory.
Este es vuestro
primer LP. ¿Qué vamos a encontrar diferente en éste CD de otras canciones
anteriores de Eagulls?
El sonido de este
disco contiene mucho del concepto y conocimiento de nuestras canciones
anteriores. Muchas reflexiones y sinceras
emociones han podido meterse esta grabación, y se puede sentire más energía que
viene de ello.
This is you first LP. What's we will be
finding different in this CD from other previous Eagulls’ songs?
The sound of this record holds a lot more thought and
knowledge to our previous songs. A lot more thought and true emotions went into
this record and you can feel more energy from it.
Esta no es la
primera vez que actúas en concierto en España. ¿Qué vas a ofrecer en vivo, y
qué esperas del público español en tus conciertos?
Nos encanta
Barcelona y España en general. En los conciertos queremos ver a la gente
abrazar nuestra música y mostrar sus sentimientos hacia ella. Esperamos que en los
conciertos podamos llegar a un punto de complicidad único entre el público y nosotros.
This
is not your first time in concert around Spain. What are you going to offer in
your live concerts and what do you hope from the Spanish people in your shows
this time?
We love Barcelona and Spain as a whole. From the shows we
want to see people embracing our music and showing their feelings towards it.
We hope the shows have a distinct intimacy so us and the crowd can be at one.

tour for 2014? Can you anticipate
anything to us?
That would be telling!
¿Piensas que el mundo digital va
a acabar con el mundo de la música tal y como lo conocemos hoy en día? Cuál es
el futuro del músico?
El mundo digital
ha aplastado a una gran parte de la industria de la música, y con ello la
clandestinidad ha emergido. Con el sufrimiento de las grandes discográficas,
algunas pequeñas entidades DIY (do-it-yourselft) a prosperar y
crecer con fuerza.
Siempre habrá un
futuro para la música sin importar el aspecto o la forma que adopte.
Do you think the digital world will end
with music as we know it today? What do you think is the future of music?
The digital world has crushed a lot of the music industry,
but with this the underground has risen. With major labels suffering it has led
smaller DIY units to flourish and grow stronger.
There will always be a future for music no matter what shape
or form it takes.
¿Cuál es tu mejor recuerdo en el
mundo de la música?
Uno de mis
mejores recuerdos de la música es cuando escribí una de mis primeras canciones.
Escucharlo, juntar cada pieza para crear
el producto final y estar orgulloso de mi logro al final, siempre es un buen
recuerdo.
What is your best memory about music?
One of my best memories about music is when I wrote one of
my first songs. Hearing it piece together to create the final product and being
proud of my achievement at the end is always is a good memory.
¿Qué piensas de
la situación económica actual en España, en Europa y en el mundo en general?
Creo que es una
situación difícil de la que trato de mantenerme alejado, sin embargo, no puedo
escapar de ella. Todo lo que puedo hacer para ayudar es mantener la creatividad.
What do you think about the current economic situation in
Spain, in Europe, and in the world in general?
I think it's a sticky situation that I try to stay away
from, yet I can't escape it. All I can do to help is to stay creative.
