Epica es una banda holandesa de metal sinfónico fundada por el guitarrista y vocalista Mark Jansen consecuentemente de su salida de After Forever. Son conocidos por su sonido sinfónico y el uso de voces femeninas y gruñidos masculinos, realizados por Simone Simons y Mark Jansen, respectivamente. Los seis miembros escriben la música, pero Mark Jansen y Simone Simons escriben la mayoría de las letras, que en gran parte tratan de temas filosóficos, como la ciencia, la religión y acontecimientos mundiales. Epica is a Dutch symphonic metal band founded by guitarist and vocalist Mark Jansen subsequent to his departure from After Forever. They are known for their symphonic sound and the use of female vocals and male growls performed by Simone Simons and Mark Jansen, respectively. All six members write the music, but Mark Jansen and Simone Simons write most of the lyrics,[citation needed] which largely deal with philosophical topics, including science, religion, and world events. To date, Epica has released five studio albums (not including their instrumental album The Score – An Epic Journey).
Ever since EPICA emerged on the scene at the end of 2002, the band has been living in a whirlwind of studio recordings, interviews, screaming fans, live performances and a rock 'n roll lifestyle. With every new album EPICA pushes the boundaries by reinventing their distinctive style, and nothing seems to stop the band on their rise to the top.
With their previous record ‘Design Your Universe', seen by many as a true milestone in bombastic and symphonic metal, EPICA seemed to have found the perfect musical mixture between classical and heavy music. The album entered the charts everywhere and consolidated their position among the top of today's metal acts. An extensive tour marathon with over 200 headlining shows allover the globe proved both their ambition and their success.

Una vez más se trata de un álbum que tiene que crece con cada escucha, así que asegúrate de darle un par de vueltas para obtener todo el cuadro completo. Al igual que con los anteriores discos, Epica mezcla la dureza, la técnica y la rapidez con lo íntimo y lo lento, tan buena como todo lo demás. Sin embargo, esta vez, son los grandes contrastes lo que hacen destacar a Requiem for the indifferent.
El álbum te llevará a un viaje a través del metal brutal, dulces melodías, pasajes instrumentales técnicos, emociones teatrales, orquestación épica, diferentes rangos vocales, melodías pegadizas y canciones de complejas composición, etc. Más que nunca, la banda conecta todos estos extremos sin problemas, haciéndolo más dinámico, más versátil, más detallista, más estilo hacia Epica que nunca.

Requiem of the Indifferent (2012) se estrenó el 9 de marzo de 2012 (el 13 de marzo en EE.UU.), tras lo cual, la banda inició la promoción del álbum con una gira mundial de gran producción.
Again it is an album which has to grow on the listener, so make sure to give it a couple of spins to get the whole picture. As with every album, EPICA mixes hard, technical and fast with intimate and slow, with as good as everything in between. However, this time around it are the huge contrasts which make ‘Requiem for the Indifferent' stick out.
The album will take you on a journey through brutal metal, sweet melodies, technical instrumental passages, theatrical moods, epic orchestration, varying vocal ranges, catchy tunes followed by complex songwriting, etc. More than ever the band connects all these extremes flawlessly, making this a more dynamic, more versatile, more detailed, more style crossing EPICA than before.
Once again, EPICA produced the new album along with Sascha Paeth (AVANTASIA, KAMELOT) at the Gate Studio in Wolfsburg, Germany. 'Requiem of the Indifferent' was released on the 9th of March 2012 (13th of March in the US), after which the band began promoting the album with a big production world tour.

Why the name "Epica"?
Epica is the place in the universe where one can find all answers to life questions. Some say it's still to be found while others say it can be found in each of us.
La música de Epica suena como una bella mezcla del heavy metal con la música clásica, una gran dosis de romanticismo, lírica medieval y una gran pasión por la música y la magia de Epica. Entonces, ¿cuáles son vuestras influencias musicales?
En primer lugar, Epica es una banda de metal, pero estamos realmente muy influenciado por la música clásica y las bandas sonoras de películas. El fondo es que cuando estamos trabajando en la música, no nos limitamos a un determinado género. Si tienes la mente abierta, cualquier cosa puede suceder en cualquier momento, y eso es lo que hace nuestra música tan compleja e interesante.
The music of Epica sound like a beautiful mix between heavy metal with classical music, a large dose of romance, medieval lyric and a great passion for music, and the magic of Epica. So, what are your musical influences?
In the first place Epica is a metal band, but we're indeed heavily influenced by classical music and film scores. Bottom line is that when we're working on music, we don't limit ourselves to a certain genre. If you're open-minded then anything can happen anytime, and that's what makes our music so complex and interesting.
¿Por qué habéis titulado Requiem for the indifferent vuestro último álbum? ¿Qué vamos a encontrar diferente en él de otros álbumes anteriores de Epica?
No cambia mucho con el enfoque que normalmente tenemos. Sólo que esta vez nos centramos más en las melodías de la voz. Desde el inicio del proceso de escritura se ha trabajado en las líneas vocales y se han añadido todos los detalles en torno a ellos. En el pasado, muchas veces terminamos la música antes de la adición de voz, lo que hizo más difícil para Simone Simons encontrar su lugar en la música. Este álbum está mucho más equilibrado.
Why do
you have titled “Requiem for the indifferent”, your last album? What's we will be finding
different in this CD from other previous albums from Epica?
We didn't change that much to the approach we usually have. Only this time we concentrated more on the melodies in the vocals. From the start of the writing process we worked on vocal lines and added all details around them. In the past we often finished the music before adding vocals, which made it more difficult for Simone Simons to find her place in the music. This album is way more balanced.
Esta no es la primera vez que actuáis en concierto en España. Creo que es… ¿la tercera?. ¿Qué vais a ofrecer en vivo, y qué esperáis del público español en sus espectáculos?
Hemos hecho 29 conciertos en España hasta la fecha, así que podemos decir que nos encanta volver! Con cada álbum, incluimos a España en nuestras giras por Europa y hemos tocado también en muchos festivales. Siempre tratamos de hacer una buena mezcla de canciones nuevas y viejas, siempre mejorar la producción de los espectáculos y probar cosas nuevas. La gente del sur es siempre fuerte, y eso no es diferente en España. Metal, buen clima, buena comida, un público entusiasta, ¿qué más quieres? :)
This is
not your first time in concert around Spain. I think it may be ... the third
time? What are you going to offer in your live concerts and what do you hope
from the Spanish people in your shows this time?
Isaac: We've played 29 shows in Spain so far, so you can easily say we love to come back! With every album we include Spain in our European tours and we've played quite some festivals too. We always try to make a nice mix of new and old songs, and we always improve the production of the shows and try new things. Southern crowds are always loud, and that isn't different in Spain. Metal, good weather, nice food, an enthousiastic crowd, what do you want more?! :)
¿Hay alguna sorpresa o planes alternativos para vuestra gira de 2012?, ¿algo que podáis anticiparnos?
A finales de 2012, Epica existirá desde hace 10 años, así que obviamente vamos a celebrarlo. Sin embargo, por desgracia, no puedo revelar ningún detalle sobre qué / cómo va a ser. have any surprise or any plans alternative to this tour for 2012?. Can
you anticipate anything to us?
At the end of 2012 Epica exists for 10 years, so obviously we'll celebrate that. However, unfortunately I can't reveal any details on what/how this will be. We'll say more about it on our website and social media real soon so keep your eyes and ears open!
¿Piensas que el mundo digital va a acabar con el mundo de la música tal y como lo conocemos hoy en día? ¿Cuál es el futuro del músico?
Todo se hizo más y más digitalizado a través de los años, pero yo no creo que se va a acabar; contrariamente es más fuerte que nunca! Supongo que el CD desaparecerá eventualmente y vamos a comprar música digital online y descargar el material gráfico que viene con él.
Do you think the digital world will end with music as we know it today? What do you think is the future of music?
Everything got more and more digitalised over the years, so I don't think that will end; contrary it's stronger than ever! I suppose CD's will eventually dissapear and we'll just buy digital music online and download the artwork which comes with it.
¿Cual es tu mejor recuerdo sobre la música?
Mirando hacia atrás en lo que he logrado hasta ahora, eso es un buen recuerdo realmente grande. En los días cuando empecé a tocar música que no tenía idea de que iba a terminar siendo capaz de vivir de girar por el mundo.
¿Cuál es vuestro mejor recuerdo en el mundo de la música?
Looking back at what I've achieved so far is one big good memory actually. Back
in the days when I started playing music I had no idea I'd end up being able to
live from touring the world.
¿Has oído hablar del #15-M o también llamada la #Spanish-revolution? ¿Qué piensas al respecto?
Sí, he oído hablar de ello y en estos días, no es de extrañar que algo así pueda suceder. Está relacionado con lo que queremos decir en "Requiem for the indifferent": el mundo está hoy en manos de un grupo muy selecto de gente codiciosa que quieren todo el poder y hacer todo lo posible para mantenerlo. La corrupción es una parte importante de todo este sistema. Al igual que con la Primavera Árabe, el Movimiento 15-M, es una especie de rebelión de gente como tú y yo para cambiar esto, y me alegro de que estas personas no sean indiferentes y defiendan sus derechos.
Have you heard of the #15-M or also called the #Spanish-revolution?. What do you think about it?
Yeah, I've heard of it and in these days it's no surprise that something like that would happen. It's related to what we wanna say on Requiem for the Indifferent: the world today is in hands of a very select group of greedy people who want all power and do everything to keep it. Corruption is a big part of this whole system. Just like with the Arab Spring, the 15-M Movement is a sort of rebellion from people like you and me to change this, and I'm glad these people are not indifferent and stand up for their rights.

... An album?: Last time I was really overwhelmed by
an album was when I heard the last Soilwork album the Panic Broadcast. It's
full of great riffs and solos, and I've been enjoying listening to it for a
very long time. There are not a lot of albums which get that much attention
from me :)
... A group or soloist?: There are so many great
bands and artists out there, but lately I adore how Tommy Emmanuel is playing
music. He's incredibly good and makes everything sounds easy.
