Mitad inglés, mitad noruego, Krissy Matthews nació el 25 de
mayo de 1992, y a la extraña edad, de 17, ya ha logrado hacer un montón de
cosas que un adolescente normal no haría.
El padre de Krissy, Keith Matthews lo subió a un escenario

Half English/Norwegian Krissy Matthews was born 25th May 1992, and now
at the rare age of 17, has already managed to do a lot of things a normal young
teenager wouldn’t.
Krissy’s father, Keith Matthews first got him up on stage at the age of
three, but Krissy got his first electric guitar at the age of eight, and from
then on it was an upwards spiral. It all started in August 2004, when Krissy
sat in with John Mayall and the BluesBreakers in the Notodden Blues Festival, Norway

Then about a year later, Keith Matthews went onto bass, forming a 3
piece power blues trio, and this was the line up to stay. The band used
different drummers, but in July 2005, went onto record their first CD
“Influences” in Timeless Studios with Mark Freeman on Drums and Keith Matthews
on Bass.
This was to be sold just at gigs, but then in February 2006, Krissy
signed to Via Music in Norway ,
and the CD was released in Scandinavia . April

Desde entonces, la banda ha evolucionado, tienen reseñas en

on stage with him, which sadly turned out to be his last ever two songs
performed live in the U.K.

The CD was released in August 2007, and to celebrate that, the band did
a 15 date tour of Scandinavia, which included playing Rockefeller, Oslo supporting Walter Trout, and going off for two nights
in the Mojo Blues Bar, Copenhagen Europe
in October, to celebrate the release. This included 3 shows supporting Robben
Ford, as well as 4 club dates in and around Belgium
and Holland
April 2008, the band went off for their second tour of Europe ,
where they performed 15 shows in 15 days.
Since then the band did a week’s tour of Norway
in May and September 2008 and a 20 date tour of Europe in October/November, as
well as numerous gigs across the UK

The next CD “Allen in Reverse” was recorded in January 2009, and was
released in September 2009. It is receiving good reviews across Europe, and
plenty of plays in Europe .
July 2009, Krissy got a phone call from Marshall Amplification to come
and perform for the Marshall Class 5 Launch Party at Ronnie Scotts supporting
Joe Bonamassa. Of course the band did the gig, and from that went onto recording
for Paul Jones, and also had one of his songs on the Classic Rock Blues
Compilation CD, and Total Guitar featuring him in the “Bands to watch out for”
section.
November 20th, the band went to record a session for BBC Radio 2 Paul
Jones at BBC Maida Vale, which was aired February 2010, just before a string of
UK shows.
2010 resultó ser otro año muy ocupado para la banda. Mikey
Dean Smith se unió a la banda sentado a la batería, justo antes del inicio de

2010 proved to be another busy year for the band. Mikey Dean Smith
joined the band on the drum stool, just before the festival season started,
giving the band an extra dimension, and Krissy had his first 15 date tour of Poland on his own with a polish band, as well as
several other fantastic gigs in Europe . The
year ended with the recording of the 4th studio CD to date “Hit the Rock” which
was released late April 2011.
2011 was a busy year with over 50 gigs across Europe
from March – June. Krissy is definitely worth going to watch, and is building
up a name as one of the brightest blues rock players coming up in Europe .
The band have performed in over 12 different countries including
England, Wales, Scotland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, Holland, Belgium,
Germany, France and Switzerland, and Portugal where they played the Festi
Avante. Krissy performed to 15,000 people alongside Brazilian blues player Nuno
Mindelis there. They got such a good reception, they got asked to come back the
following year where they were upgraded as the main stage opening act.

Who is Krissy Matthews?
I am a 20 year old half British half Norwegian blues rock guitarist and
vocalist, with a bit of bass, percussion and harmonica chucked in!
I was lucky to perform with John Mayall when I was 12, and since then played
with the likes of Bernie Marsden, Jeff Healey and Walter Trout, and supported
the likes of Gregg Allman, Robben Ford, Derek Trucks, Joe Bonamassa and Ten
Years After, as well as appearing in several TV and Radio stations, and
magazines/newspapers in Europe . I love music
and love playing live shows entertaining people, it’s my passion!
So far, we have done over 15 countries in Europe ,
with crowds as big as 15,000 people and as small as 8!

Sí, me gusta bastante un montón de gente. Mi padre es la
primera persona que me gustó en la música ¡ Pero aparte de eso, Hank Marvin y The
Shadows solían (¡aún lo hacen!) encantarme. Así que me gusta la forma en que tocan
sus melodías juntos, y Peter Green con su tacto y su tono. Me encantan las
bandas de rock sureño como Lynnard Skynnard y los Allman Brothers, así como

In your latest album ‘Hit the Rock’, you surprised us with a
lot of songs with a varied mix of styles, where we can found: rock & roll,
blues, American rock, and a bit of country folk, It seems Krissy Matthews is
inspired by the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s in their themes, what can you tell
us about it?
Yeah I like quite a lot of people. My Dad is my main man who I first
loved on the music side! But apart from that, Hank Marvin and The Shadows I
used to (still do!) love. So I love the way he puts his melodies together, and
Peter Green with his feel and tone. I love the southern rock bands such as
Lynnard Skynnard and Allman Brothers as well as great songwriters such as Bob
Dylan, Lennon/McCartney and Jagger/Richards. Obviously Jimi Hendrix plays a big
part in who I love and am inspired from, as well as the blues greats such as
Buddy Guy, BB King, Freddie King, Albert Collins, Robert Cray and Derek Trucks.

Estábamos de gira en Noruega en noviembre de 2010, y al

We were on tour in Norway

Bueno, habrá un montón de energía y de interacción con el
público. Eso es lo que es un concierto en directo, y todos son diferentes!
Tenemos un set-list, pero nunca nos cejamos en ella como la mayoría de las
bandas. ¡Nunca se sabe lo que se puede pasar en un concierto! ¡Todos ellos son
diferentes!
Pero sobre todo habrá mis canciones, con sólo unas pocas versiones
hechas de una forma ligeramente diferente a la que se hizo originalmente!
What are we going to see and
enjoy your live show?
Well there is plenty of energy and interaction with the audience. That
is what a live show is about, and they are all different! We have a set list
but we never stick to it like most bands. Never know what to expect at a live
show! They are all different!
But it will be mainly my original music with only a few cover songs done
in a slightly different way to how they were originally done!

público español en tus conciertos?
Estuve de vacaciones en Gran Canaria en junio durante una
semana y terminé haciendo un concierto en el último minuto, ¡y fue genial! Un
espectáculo en solitario en Playa Viva Blues Festival. Eso fue grande, muy
buena gente que estaban paseando por la calle! Y luego toqué en un pequeño concierto en
solitario en Madrid, pero solo estuve allí 15 horas! Así que esta será mi
primera vez de gira por España, ¡y no puedo esperar! Sé que el público es muy
animado, receptivo, y te hacen saber si estás
haciendo un buen trabajo y los agradecen! Va ser genial, y espero que pueda
hacer muchos más conciertos!
Is this your first time in Spain
I was on holiday in Gran Canaria in June for a week and ended up doing a
show at last minute which was cool! A solo show in Playa Viva Blues Festival.
That was great, really good crowd that were up for it outside in a street! And
then I played a small solo show in Madrid Spain
¿Hay alguna sorpresa
o planes alternativos para vuestra gira de 2012 y 2013?, ¿algo que puedas
anticiparnos?
Bueno, en esta gira tengo una banda diferente a la habitual.
En este tour no tengo Mikey Dean Smith en la batería, ni a Aaron Spears en el
bajo. Ambos son de Australia, y vienen del mundillo del Jazz Fusion, ¡así que
es muy emocionante! Y todos somos más o menos de la misma edad y buenos amigos,
así que estamos deseando que lleguen. Podríamos estar de vuelta en España en
noviembre para un par de conciertos, después de un año de pesada gira, después,
para enero del próximo año, estaremos haciendo mi próximo disco, que espero sea
más grande y mejor, y puedo traerlo a España y una gira más por aquí, pero todavía
lo no sabemos!
Do you have any surprise or any
plans alternative to this tour for 2012 and 2013?. Can you
anticipate anything to us?
Well this tour I have a different touring band to my normal one. This
tour I have Mikey Dean Smith on Drums and Aaron Spears on Bass. Both from Australia Spain in November
for a few shows after a heavy touring year, then January next year I am doing
my next record, and hopefully that will be bigger and better, and I can bring
that to Spain

día? ¿Cuál es el futuro del músico?
¡No tengo ni idea! Espero que no, ya que nunca he descargado
música! Si quiero música, me compro el CD por Internet o en una tienda. Me
gusta tener algo. Me encanta leer los libretos, y tener la caja, no sólo descargarlo
en un ordenador! Para mi, la carátula y el embalaje, son parte del disco, así
que espero que las descargas desaparezcan y la gente vuelva a comprar discos y
CD, ¡e incluso las cintas! Haha. ¡Es mucho más emocionante!
Do you think the digital world
will end with music as we know it today? What do you think is the future of music?
I dont have a clue! I hope not as I never download music! If I get
music, I buy the CD on the internet or in the shop. I like to have something. I
love reading booklets, and having the case, not just downloading onto a
computer! The artwork is part of the record for me and the packaging so I hope
download will fade out and people will go back to buying records and CD’s, and
even tapes! Haha. They are more exciting!

cuatro mejores recuerdos!
1 / Cuando yo tenía 3 años, mi padre me subió al escenario
para tocar "Pretty Woman" de Roy Orbison. ¡Mi canción favorita en aquel
momento! ¡Y eso fue increíble! Yo solo golpeaba la guitarra y feliz de estar en
el escenario a las 3 años!
2 / Tocar con John Mayall en Noruega dos noches seguidas. Al
mismo tiempo pude conocer a leyendas como Peter Green y Long John Baldry.
2 / Conocer a BB King cuando tenía 14 años en Bournemouth.
Le escribí una carta, y sobre el escenario, la leyó delante de 8.000 personas y
me subierona al escenario! No toqué con él, pero él me abrazó, y hablamos tras
bastidores durante una media hora!
3 / Conocer y tocar con Jeff Healey. El hombre más amable
que he conocido en la carretera, y me llevó a tocar con él. Un verdadero honor
y un recuerdo de una persona y que nunca olvidaré.
4 / Conocer a Hubert Sumlin en Noruega en 2005, y hablé y
salí con él detrás del escenario durante dos días. Me contaba historias, y toqué
"Killing Floor" para él entre bastidores. Fue un gran honor hacerlo, conocer
y hablar con una leyenda! Los New York Dolls estaban por allí..
What is your best memory about
music?
Well this could be quite a tough one, so I am going to list my four
favourite memories!
1/ When I was 3, my dad got me up on stage to play on “Pretty Woman” by
Roy Orbison. My favourite song at the time! And that was amazing! I just hit
the guitar and good to stand on stage at 3!
2/ Playing with John Mayall in Norway
2/ Meeting BB King when I was 14 in Bournemouth .
I wrote a letter, put it on the stage, and he read it out infront of 8000
people and got me on stage! I didnt play with him but he cuddled me, and we
spoke backstage for about half an hour!
3/ Meeting and performing with Jeff Healey. The nicest man I have ever
met on the road, and got me to play with him. A true honour, and a memory and
person I will never forget.
4/ Meet Hubert Sumlin in Norway

vuelve a estar de moda?
Definitivamente está aquí, pero la gente lo no sabe todavía!
Con gente como Jack White y Steve Seasick, está de moda otra vez, sólo deseo
que estas personas que fueron a verlos, echa un ojo a todo el mundo de este
circuito! El espectador medio no se da cuenta adecuadamente que estos chicos
están "toman sus raíces" del blues, y no se molestes en venir a ver a
otros chicos del blues más jóvenes, pero creo que va a volver poco a poco, y

Do you think the blues is back
in fashion?
It’s definitely getting there, but people dont know it yet! With people
such as Jack White and Seasick Steve, it is getting in fashion, I just wish
these people who went to see them would check out everyone in this circuit!
Your average spectator doesn’t realise properly these guys are “rooted” in the
blues, and dont bother coming out to see the other younger blues guys, but I
think that it is coming back slowly, and is ready to explode anytime soon as
there is alot of good bands here ready to take the world by storm! Classic Rock

I don’t read books, but if I had to choose, it would have to be Ronnie O’Sullivan autobiography. I like snooker, and he is one of the world champions with a great life, so that was a great book. I would like to read Keith Richards autobiography as well as Eric Clapton’s and Ginger Bakers. They are in the house, I just need to find the time to read them!

Very tough question, but I am going to say “Apache” by The Shadows. I think it was the first Shadows song I ever learnt and played everywhere locally!
