The ZZ Tops, The World's Best ZZ Top Tribute Band. Entrevista a Nik Ryan

The ZZ Tops es un grupo británico que rinde homenaje al trío tejano The ZZ Top.

Nick Ryan retrata al legendario líder legendario de la banda, Billy Gibbons, en su aspecto y su forma de tocar.  Mientras tanto, las travesuras de vaquero Hillbilly de Dusty Hill, en el bajo, reproduce fielmente al Coronel Gray, al que clava el estilo vocal y sonido único de "The Dust". También está Matt Jones, asumiendo el papel de Frank Beard, el único miembro sin barba.

Creo que es obvio, pero ¿por qué el nombre de ZZ Tops?

Tiempo atrás, en nuestra juventud,  la cultura pop británica en televisión era "Top of the Pops", por lo que el nombre era una mezcla de ZZ Top y Top of the Pops.

I think it's obvious, but, why the name ZZ Tops?

Way back in our youth the british pop culture on TV was “top of the pops” so the name was a mixture of ZZ Top and Top of the pops.

ZZ Tops es una banda tributo que hace versiones de ZZ Top ¿Por qué éste y no otro grupo?

Es fácil, sólo se ha tenido tiempo suficiente para hacer que una banda suene bien!

ZZ Tops is a tribute band doing versions of ZZ Top. Why this and no other group?

That’s easy, you have only got enough time to make just one band sound great!

¿Os habéis planteado tocar vuestras propias canciones aunque sean del mismo estilo?

¿Por que no escribimos nuestras propias canciones? Sí, eso está en cola de espera, pero por ahora, como te dije en la anterior pregunta, todos nuestros esfuerzos van en la creación de una auténtica experiencia basada en ZZ Top.

Have you raised your own songs to play even the same style?

Do we write our own songs? Yes, that’s in the pipeline but at the moment as question 2 all our efforts go into creating an authentic ZZ top experience.

¿Quién decide qué temas tocar? ¿Cómo trabajáis en las canciones?

Bueno, nuestro setlist está en constante evolución basado en lo que quieran los fans quieren, y en lo que ZZ Top quieran tocar.

Who decides what issues play? How do you work the songs with the band?

Well, our setlist is constantly evolving into something between what the fans want and what zz top themselves play.

¿Qué vamos a poder ver y disfrutar en vuestros conciertos en España?

¿Qué se puede esperar en los conciertos en España? (esto no lo traducimos) Some high powered Authentic Texas boogie played ZZ style.

What do we will see and enjoy in your live Spanish concerts?

What do you expect at the Spanish concerts? Some high powered Authentic Texas boogie played ZZ style.

¿Esperáis grabar algún disco? ¿Está en vuestra mente? ¿Cuáles son los planes de ZZ Tops para el 2013?

Ya tenemos un CD grabado en vivo en el Reino Unido, y un DVD en directo grabado en Bélgica, que vendemos en nuestros conciertos, y seguro que grabaremos más en el futuro.

Will you edit a CD or DVD in the near future? Is it in your mind? What are the plans of ZZ Tops for the rest of 2012 and early 2013?

We have a live CD recorded in the UK and a live DVD recorded in Belgium for sale at our shows and sure there will be more recorded along the way.

 

¿El mundo digital va a acabar con el mundo tal y como lo conocemos hoy? ¿Cuál es el futuro del músico?

Seguro que está cambiando la forma en que todos adquirimos y escuchamos música grabada, pero creo que siempre habrá actuaciones en directo. Aún no se puede sustituir a un músico con una descarga...

Do you think the digital world will end with music as we know it today? What do you think is the future of music?

For sure it’s changing the way we all acquire and listen to recorded music but I think there will always be live performances. Can not replace a musician with a download……yet

¿Cuál ha sido vuestro mejor momento/recuerdo en la música?

Eso sería siempre por la música en vivo, la música punk rock en directo cuando era un adolescente, en un concierto reciente  de ZZ Top. Todas son grandes experiencias.

What is your best memory about music?

That would be always about live music, live punk rock music when I was a teenager to a recent ZZ top concert, they are all great experiences.

¿Qué pensáis acerca de la situación actual en España, en Europa y en el mundo en general?

Desde mi punto de vista, esta no es la primera vez que ha habido una recesión mundial, y no será la última. Hay que pensar en positivo y apretar los dientes, y veremos como todo sale bien.

What do you think about the current situation in Spain, in Europe and in the world at large?

The way I see it,this isn’t the first time there has been a global recession and it wont be the last. Think positive and knuckle down and we’ll all come out the other side.

¿Por qué crees que hay este boom de bandas tributo a grupos de todos los estilos y épocas?

Hay un montón de fans de la música en directo por ahí, y no todos pueden llegar a ver a la banda original por diferentes razones. Las bandas tributo son una alternativa real, por un precio de entrada razonable, en la que se puede ver un poco de música genial en directo de la banda que les gusta.

Why do you think that there is this boom of tribute bands to groups of all styles and times?

Why is there a boom in tribute bands? There are a lot of fans of live music out there and they cant all get to see the original band for different reasons. Tribute bands are a real alternative, for a reasonable ticket price they can see some really great live music from the band they love.
